• Inspect trees as regularly as possible to make sure they are healthy and, most importantly loosen ties as the expansion of the stem may conceivably bite into the bark.

• Pests can be the biggest killer so inspect plants inside your house and greenhouse regularly for greenfly, whitefly and spider mite as they can spread surprisingly quickly. You can either deal with the problem yourself or, if it proves too time consuming; bring in your local pest control.

• If you are looking to start on a new lawn from seed then ensure that you rake the soil level very carefully and remove any stones and other debris. Rake the seen gently into the soil and cover with netting to protect from birds after watering thoroughly.
