Salad Crops

SaladBaby Salad Leaves

Seed Packets of baby mixed salad leaves are now widely available and give a peppery alternative to bland salad leaves. They are hardy annuals and should be sown every 2 weeks from April until September outdoors to provide summer-long picking.

Baby Salad Leaves prefer good soil in full sun sow ¾ inch deep in drills 15in apart in finely-raked soil. Thinnings can be used as required.

Harvest the young leaves, picking a few from each plant before the plants are 6in tall, after which they become less flavoursome.
